Brunch at Angelina's & A Walk in the Park with Kate

Angelina Rivoli Brunch Restaurant was established in 1903 and is famous for the Mont Blanc cake and hot chocolate.

Kate and I went there to check it out.  Luckily, being winter, there were no queues, which I have been told are pretty long in Summer.  The restaurant was nearly full though.

We were led to our table by a lovely, happy gentleman, but when he came to take our order, we were still talking and needed more time!

Unfortunately when we were ready, he wasn't doing our section anymore and we got "miss grumpy pants".  She wasn't happy when we ordered from the brunch menu .... it confused us a little, but we eventually got it right.

When she came back and we asked whether the champagne was "demi sec" or not, she was in disbelief that we would be asking a question like that at 11:00am.  It wasn't what Kate liked, so we ordered Rose instead, she still couldn't believe it!! Much to our delight.

Kate ordered eggs benedict and I had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich .... it was good!

The lovely thing about French restaurants and cafe's is that they don't rush you out, you can sit there for ages and relax.

After finishing our breakfast, we decided that we should have The Mont Blanc, as that is what everyone recommends.  I did go for coffee instead of hot chocolate though.

The cake didn't flick my switch and Kate wasn't impressed with the chestnut paste.  I think there are many nicer cakes and pastries in Paris than that one, of course, this is only my personal opinion :)

We finally left, after a quick trip to the loo, which is up the winding stair case and one of the nicest dunnies I've seen in Paris.

Of course, next on the agenda was a wander around the shops and a visit to WH Smith, a bookstore that carries books, magazines, DVD's music, children's gifts etc in ENGLISH!  It was nice to buy a mag in my native tongue instead of feeling like I'm reading picture books all the time.  This store also stocks various items for British, New Zealand and Australian tastes, such as pickles, Vegemite, chocolates, drinks, golden syrup!

It had been snowing outside for quite a while and I wanted to walk around in the park across the road because it was white and fresh and I get hot and stuffy in shops with all the regalia you have on.

These gardens were originally part of the palace, Kate knew a lot about them.  She is well read and very knowledgeable on a lot of things!  Marie Antoinette is said to have run through these gardens when trying to escape the revolution.

We stopped at a cafe in the gardens because we thought a hot chocolate would be good (it was freezing outside) but Kate saw there was mulled wine, so we ordered that instead.  Yum!

Then it was time to get going as it was about 4pm and we started at about 10!!

Walking back to the Metro a ball of snow came flying over the rail, just missing us ... it was a little boy .... laughing and running away at full speed!!  We should have thrown one back!

Walking around in the snow is so nice, I love it, even if it is cold.  I actually saw seagulls in the water and thought "the poor things", I bet they wish there were in Geraldton on the foreshore eating everyone's fish & chips!!

I would recommend Angelina's, just to go there, but perhaps you might order one of the other yummy cakes from the window or you could be a fan of the Mont Blanc!  Just make sure if you are ordering off the menu, to check the time!!
